Thomas HardyThe area arround Lymes Regis lies in Thomas Hardy's South Wessex. Bridport (Port Bredy) appears in several of Hardy's books because it is where everyone goes on honeymoon. Bridport is also the setting for Fellow Townsmen. In Tess of the d'Urbervilles, Tess arrives in Beaminster (Emminster) with the intention of throwing herself on the Clare family's mercy.

David Ruffle

David Ruffle David Ruffle was born in Northamptonshire and moved to Oxfordshire at an early age. He moved to Lyme Regis in July 2004 after an initial visit in January of the same year. David only started writing since moving to Lyme: poetry, ghost stories and various Holmes pieces culminating in the novella Sherlock Holmes and the Lyme Regis Horror.

An established author, she is a writer of fiction and non fiction and feels blessed to be doing something she loves whilst bringing such pleasure to her readers. Sallyann is an experienced publisher, editor and professional copywriter and still leads writing workshops throughout Europe. She lives in Charmouth and due to the success of her debut novel, If Wishes Were Horses, she is currently working on her latest novel.

Lucy Daniel Raby

Lucy Daniel RabyLucy Daniel Raby wrote her first play at 8 (a nativity play told from the point of view of the donkey). After university, where she read English, she became an advertising copywriter and journalist writing commercials and jingles. She broke into TV writing in the late eighties, with a play for Channel 4, entitled Head Girl, starring Trudy Styler. She then became a team writer on a popular Saturday morning kids’ show, No 73, starring Sandi Toksvig. She then worked as a scriptwriter on many children’s TV programmes including Angelina Ballerina. She also created an original comedy drama show, Big Kids, for CBBC , starring Imogen Stubbs. Her books about the childhood of Santa Claus, Nickolai of the North and Nickolai’s Quest were published by Hodder in 2005/7. She has written a musical version of Nickolai of the North, which appeared at the Marine theatre, Lyme Regis for Christmas 2009, and is now available for licence. She is working on a new sci fi fantasy book series for 9-12 year olds, a supernatural detective book series for 5-9 year olds set in Lyme, and a new play for the Lyme Regis Artsfest, also set in Lyme, celebrating the town’s rich literary heritage. She is a member of BAFTA and the Society of Authors and has not one but two agents, a bit like we now have two prime ministers. She loves being by the sea in Lyme Regis but has always had a secret yen to live in a treehouse.

Sylvia Creed
Sylvia Creed was born in the heart of the Marshwood Vale and into its traditional trade: dairying at Peace Living Farm. She was educated at the local village school and at Lyme Regis but later left to travel the globe. She returned to find the vale much changed and she decided to find and record her roots before all recollection was lost.

Lorraine Jenkin from Builth Wells published her novel Chocolate Mousse and Two Spoons (set in Lyme Regis) in April 2008. Lorraine decided to leave her job and travel to Patagonia to write the book. Originally from Lyme Regis she went to University in Wales and has been in Wales ever since.
